Nanaino boy dead after hit by a truck given first aid

A Nanaimo boy, Linden Baglo, 8 years old is dead after hit by a truck while riding his bicycle. According to Royal Canadian Mounted Police in Nanaimo, the incident happened at about 11:40 on a Sunday morning in the 1000 block of Nelson Street.

Firefighters, policemen and B.C. Ambulance responded immediately to the area. Some bystanders and first responders provided first aid to the boy. The injured child was immediately taken to the Regional General Hospital where he was further treated for his injuries. The boy was pronounced dead after a couple of days.

According to the investigators, the driver of the truck remained in the area and cooperated with the investigators. It was determined that the boy was wearing a bike helmet, and was with a 10 year old sister when he went out of the driveway. They collided with the truck, an F-350 pickup. Speed, drugs and alcohol are not the factors for the accident. The truck was detained by investigators and has to undergo mechanical inspection.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police Victim Services of Nanaimo were in the area to help the family of the boy and other people who were involved in the incident. Linden Baglo is a student of the School District 68. School liaison officers of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police together with grief counselors will assist any student and staff of the school that were strongly affected by the incident.

According to Gary O’Brien, spokesman of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police of Nanaimo, in a press release, he stated that this is a tragic accident and our sincere prayers and thoughts are sent to the family of Linden Baglo and everyone involved in the incident. We also acknowledge several good bystanders and first responders who without hesitation provided first aid to the boy. These good bystanders and first responders who provided first aid to the boy, just departed before investigators have the chance to talk to them.

Tracy Williams, a family friend set up a GoFundMe for the family of the boy to cover funeral cost and other expenses. According to Williams, Linden was a charismatic sweet boy, funny boy and brought smiles and joy to everyone’s life.
