Anti-mask protest in Kelowna nets organizer with a $2,300 fine

Despite the hefty fines people have to pay for violating the safety protocols, a few continue to go against the rules. As mask protests become rampant, the rally that took place on Saturday was the second time when the police issued a fine. The Kelowna RCMP issued a $2,300 fine to the organizer of the protest. The event did not follow the public health order related to COVID-19 which can put everyone at risk and contribute to the increasing cases of COVID-19.

This is the second time that the police handed a $2,300 fine for gatherings. According to witnesses, there were around 125 people involved in the rally with a few wearing masks and not observing physical distancing.

The officers were present during the event to ensure that the both the protesters and the public are safe.

It is the second $2,300 fine police in the city have issued for gatherings of people opposed to measures meant to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

The people in Canada have the right to protest. However, the presence of the officers aims to balance the possibility for health risks linked with public gatherings. Back in December last year, the RCMP issued a hefty fine of $2,300 against the organizer of a similar protest in the downtown area where around 1,000 people attended.

The RCMP encourages citizens to follow the provincial health orders which include the suspension of outdoor gatherings including protests or rallies.
