The length of this course is 4 hours. Participants must attend 100% of the course to successfully complete the program.
This course costs only $73.99.
CPR level A course content includes rescuing victims that are:
- Unconscious and breathing.
- Unconscious and not breathing.
- Conscious and unconscious choking victims.
- Requiring the aid of AED’s.
- Suffering from circulatory emergencies
Candidates that successfully complete the skills portion will receive a CPR level A and AED certificate that is valid for 3 years.
We understand that candidates learn at different speeds and in a variety of different methods. If you do not complete the course the first time you are able to, at no extra cost, re-take the course.
Refunds are not accepted within 72 hours of the primary course. Transfers within 72 hours are charged 25 dollars. Candidates that request a refund or transfer prior to 72 hours of the primary course registered will receive a full refund. There are no refunds for rescheduled events.
Students are strongly advised to check with their employer prior to enrollment to ensure the certification meets their requirements.

CPR Level A teaches life-saving skills focused on adult-only CPR and choking response. It’s ideal for workplaces or situations where child and infant coverage is not required. You’ll learn:
- Adult chest compressions & rescue breaths
- Use of AED (automated external defibrillator)
- Conscious and unconscious choking relief for adults
- Scene assessment and safety
- Personal protective equipment (PPE)
- Legalities of doing CPR in Canada
- Employees whose workplace only requires adult CPR (per OHS or company policy)

- Anyone wanting to gain confidence in responding to adult emergencies
If your role involves children or infants (e.g. childcare, schools), you may need CPR Level C instead.
Typically, the CPR Level A course runs 4 hours, depending on class size and pace. It includes both theory and hands-on practice to ensure proficiency.
You will learn:
- Perform Adult-only CPR (compressions + breaths)
- Proper use of an AED
- Adult choking protocols
- Scene safety, responder responsibilities, and legal considerations
Hands-on practice and skills assessment will be part of the training.
No prior training is required. You only need:
- Basic English comprehension
- Ability to perform physical movements (kneeling, compressions)
- A photo ID
- Comfortable clothing for movement

Your CPR Level A certificate, issued through St Mark James Training, is valid for 3 years from the date of completion.
To remain certified, you’ll want to renew before it expires, especially for workplace compliance.
If your certificate is still valid, you can take a recertification / renewal course to refresh your skills and extend validity.
If it has expired, you will need to complete the full CPR Level A course again.
Yes — for many Alberta workplaces, CPR Level A is acceptable if adult-only coverage is needed under OHS regulations. The program is not an OH&S approved course.
However, always check with your employer or safety officer if your role requires CPR Level C or BLS due to setting or population (child, infant) responsibilities.
