A young child who drowned at a popular local lake was given CPR. The police stated that the 7-year old drowned at a lake.

Watery ordeal

RCMP Cpl. Ken Callaghan stated that a swimmer discovered the girl floating in the water of Westwood Lake, around five or six feet below the surface, around 2:20 PM. The 40-year old from Camrose, Alberta pulled her to shore.

Several lifeguards were on scene at the lake and performed CPR on the girl. She was taken to Nanaimo Regional General Hospital but was later declared dead.

Callaghan stated that the girl was part of a group of children, and her parents were not on scene at the time of the drowning. The police stated that she is from the small community of Cedar, around 14 kilometers northwest of Nanaimo.
