Yarmouth County man dies while kite surfing

A Yarmouth County man died last week while kite surfing. Family and friends were saddened by the death of the man.

Unexpected ordeal on the water

According to the Meteghan RCMP, the emergency responders were called to Mavillette Beach in Mavillette, Digby County after receiving an alert that a 53-year old man was in distress while kite surfing with others.

Upon arrival, some individuals on the shoreline were performing CPR on the man.

Despite the efforts to resuscitate the man, he died according to Sgt. Dan Gaudet of the Meteghan RCMP detachment.

The man was identified as Russell Cushing of Dayton, Yarmouth County. He loved chasing the wind, pursuing his passion for kite surfing. Although wind surfing was his passion, his true love was his family.

According to Sgt. Gaudet, the emergency responders were alerted by a 911 call regarding a man in distress. The fire crews and the ambulance responded. Upon arrival, some individuals on the shoreline were performing CPR on the man. He was transported by EHS to the Yarmouth Regional Hospital.

Due to his sudden death, Sgt. Gaudet stated that an autopsy will be performed to determine the cause of death. The RCMP are working with the medical examiner’s office.
