Timely delivery of CPR: Babysitter found unresponsive in pool

A young girl called 911 after her babysitter was found unresponsive in a backyard pool. The York Regional Police stated that the members of Central York Fire Services were the first on the scene on Arnold Crescent.

According to Sgt. John Loughry, a firefighter dove into the pool and dragged the woman out. The firefighter immediately performed CPR until the paramedics arrived. He could not provide any details on the condition of the woman but life-saving measures are continued at the healthcare facility. Furthermore, the next of kin were notified of the incident.

Unforeseen event

According to Insp. Alvaro Almeida who was with the York Regional Police, the child who called for emergency assistance attempted to rescue to the babysitter. The age of the child was not released.

As stated by Loughry, the police consider this as an accident. There are no signs that there was a party at the time and alcohol is not believed to be a contributing factor. It is still uncertain how the woman entered the pool but foul play is not suspected.
