Sewers stitch masks for free up supplies for healthcare workers

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to spread, it urged sewers all over the country to fight the health crisis together. The move involves creating cloth masks as a way to increase the supply of personal protective equipment. Nevertheless, health officials warn that the cloth masks do not serve as a substitute for medical-grade equipment.

The “Sewing for Lives” group on Facebook was created out of concern for the lack of masks for workers and volunteers during their work in the field. The group made a move to get in touch with other sewers in the Ottawa area to produce masks to be given to those in the frontlines. Within a week, the members of the group doubled. With many people staying at home, some are ready to help in any way possible while also providing an outlet.

However, the custom masks are better than having nothing at all.
