A gas station attendant who was run over was given CPR. The employee was run over by a stolen Ford F-350 truck after attempting to stop the driver who did not pay for his fuel.
Under critical condition
The male driver pulled out of the Centex gas station on 16th Ave. N.W., stopping at the Home Depot parking lot the next block over.
The attendant confronted the driver, attempting to stop him from leaving according to Sgt. Colin Foster with the Calgary Police.
Rod Lechelt was shopping for plants at the store’s outdoor garden centre when he saw the woman yelling at the driver who parked the truck near the front of the store in a handicapped stall.
The driver pulled out of the parking lot, waiting for a westbound red light to turn green according to Lechelt. The 35-year old woman stood in front of the truck, trying to stop it. The truck struck the woman as the driver advanced down the roadway, carrying her for 15 meters on the hood before throwing her onto the road.
It was then the vehicle drove over her. Lechelt sprinted over to see what was up. There was a Home Depot employee crumpled against a fence in fetal position, screaming. When he looked at the road, he saw her. The woman was unconscious and bleeding heavily from her mouth and one of her legs.
A Home Depot employee Deb Tarves stated that 2 of her colleagues witnessed the entire scene, one of who attempted CPR on the victim. She came back and was traumatized according to Tarves who works in the store’s outdoor garden centre.
The paramedics rushed the woman to a healthcare facility with potentially life-threatening injuries including head injuries.
The woman is in critical condition with serious pelvic and leg injuries at the Foothills Hospital.
