Raft overturns on N.B. river

Two people died after a raft they were riding overturned on New Brunswick’s Miramichi River. According to RCMP Sgt. Brent Johnston, 8 friends were rafting down the river in Gray Rapids, N.B. shortly after 4 PM when it flipped.

He added that 6 people were able to reach the shore on their own and a 29-year old woman from White Rapids, N.B. was dragged out of the water by the first responders and CPR was performed. The woman was transported to a healthcare facility but she was declared dead.

According to Johnston, the body of a 55-year old man from White Rapids was discovered shortly after. There is no possible foul play in the incident.

Johnston believes that the current was flowing rapidly at the time of the incident, but an investigation is under way to figure out the cause why the raft overturned.
