A 66-year old Delta man is alive after an off-duty Surrey RCMP officer performed CPR.

A man was in medical distress in his vehicle which stopped in the westbound lane of 56 Avenue. This is where first aid training plays a big role in saving the life of the man. The officer called 911 before he and another motorist moved the man out of his vehicle and started CPR.

Other officers arrived on the scene and helped with CPR. An automated external defibrillator was also used several times before the man was transported to a healthcare facility.

The Emergency Health Services personnel and the attending physician stated that the rapid actions along with the AED helped save the life of the man.

According to Surrey RCMP Sgt. Alanna Dunlop, the Surrey RCMP gratefully thanks the members of the public who helped during the incident and saved the life of the man. The rapid response by the officers and civilians were essential to a positive outcome.
