Witnesses who saw the incident saw people running away from the area and another group of people helping the victim. One of them was a man named Fabien Kalala. He used to live in the place and was only visiting relatives that afternoon. His daughter was playing outside. According to Kalala, he heard burst of about four gunshots. He took his daughter and other children inside the house and then he heard again gunfire and decided to interfere. He saw the victim lying on the ground, and severely bleeding. His first instinct was to keep the man alive. Being trained in first aid he immediately provided first aid and CPR to the man. He tried to put as much pressure on the chest to keep circulation of blood in the body. He keeps talking to the man to prevent him from becoming unconscious. Other bystanders called the emergency numbers. In a few minutes the paramedics arrived and the victim was immediately brought to the hospital for further treatment. The man was declared dead in the hospital. Kalala gave his condolences to the family. We did everything we could to save the life the man. I don’t even know the victim. The daughter of Kalala has been traumatized by the shooting and does not want to return to the neighborhood. According to Kalala, his daughter is only 3 years old and I don’t want her to see another incident like this again.

According to the police they have not yet identified any suspects. A witness fears for the safety of their children, especially that the suspect is still on the loose. They felt unsafe living in the community. Some parents decide not to let their daughters or son attend an after-school program since the incident happened around the time where the children are going home from school.

This fatal shooting incident is the 12th homicide that happened in the city so far.
