While the Ontario government refused to implement a province-wide mandatory face mask rule, it left the decision up to individual regions.

Several towns and cities are now working on policies to make masks mandatory for individuals inside enclosed public or commercial spaces.

Let us take a look at what some regional and city councils in the Greater Toronto Area are deciding on:

Toronto

Toronto now made it mandatory to wear face masks while inside enclosed public spaces. The policy came into effect to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 as more businesses start to reopen.

People are now required to wear a mask on public transportation and inside shops, malls, and grocery stores. There is no need to wear a mask while at home while eating on a patio or at most workplaces while physical distancing is possible.

Durham Region

Masks are mandatory for residents in public indoor spaces. All residents are required to wear a face-covering while visiting enclosed commercial or public spaces.
