Inmate died despite delivery of CPR

Matsqui Institution inmate died despite CPR after found unresponsive in cell. The 60-year old was serving life sentence for killing his wife. The man was found unresponsive in his cell.

Unforeseen ordeal

Thomas Robert Elton was discovered to be unconscious according to Gordon Tanner, the assistant warden.

The prison personnel performed CPR and the emergency services were called but the resuscitation attempts failed in reviving the man. The next of kin were notified and the death will be reviewed by the police and the coroner’s office.

Elton had been serving a life sentence with the possibility of parole after 25 years for a second-degree murder committed back in 2009. He was found guilty of killing his wife back in 2012.
