Father of overdose victim performed CPR for 5 hours

A Calgary father was charged for the overdose death of his daughter. He attempted to revive the child using wires from a lamp as a makeshift defibrillator.

Unforeseen ordeal

Jonathon Hope informed the paramedics who responded to his southwest Calgary house that he performed CPR on his daughter for 5 hours. The paramedics notice a dismantled lamp at the scene. Hope indicated that he attempted to restart the baby’s heart with 2 bare wires. Hope did not call 911 since his phone was not working.

The 16-month old Summer Hope died after ingesting a lethal amount of methadone. The police believe that the father smuggled the methadone to his house from a clinic where he was under treatment for drug addiction.
