A fatal accident on Highway 125 raised safety concerns in the area. The 79-year old driver involved in the single-vehicle crash died in a healthcare facility.
Road safety
The man along with a 78-year old female passenger of North River was transported to the Cape Breton Regional Hospital. The woman sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
During the incident, Kenneth Jackson was one of the passersby who stopped to help. On that day, it was raining heavily. The truck hydroplaned, flipped 2-3 times on the road and another 3 times in the ditch and landed in around 2 feet of water. It was a struggle to open the door of the truck.
The woman was looked after by nurses and women who stopped by. The rest were trying to get her husband out of the truck. Jackson added that people took turns in delivering CPR on the man until the arrival of the ambulance.
