CPR performed on 16-year old boy after incident at swimming hole

A 16-year old boy drowned in a well-known swimming hole in Flatrock. According to the Royal Newfoundland Constabulary, they confirmed the death for the Telegram late Tuesday.

The incident occurred around 3:30 PM when the boy was swimming at the popular place when he ran into trouble in the water which was known as Jim Dunn’s Hole. It is positioned off Windgap Road.

The members of the Torbay Volunteer Fire Department responded to the area together with rescue crews from St. John’s Regional Fire Department as well as the Cold Water Rescue team.

It is not known how long the body was in the water before he was dragged out by the first responders who promptly performed resuscitative efforts. According to the firefighters, an onlooker delivered CPR on the boy after he was brought up from the swimming hole to an ambulance.

The boy was quickly transported to the Health Sciences Centre but later declared dead. The RNC officers were also present on the scene, taking statements from several teenagers and other witnesses.
