An overnight fire left one person dead

One individual is dead after an early morning fire in a Britannia apartment. The firefighters responded to several 911 calls reporting heavy smoke in a 3-story apartment building on Zephyr Avenue just before 3 AM. The fire was contained to a single apartment on the second floor.

Unexpected ordeal

According to Ottawa Fire, one person was found without any vital signs and declared dead at the scene.

A 63-year old man was transported to a healthcare facility in a serious but stable condition. Two neighbors were assessed on the scene and released.

There is no word on the root cause of the fire. An Ottawa Fire investigator will be on the scene to conduct further investigation.
