Aldergrove zoo to reopen with staff in masks

Although the COVID-19 pandemic forced many businesses and other establishments to close down. One of the establishments that are going to reopen to the public after a month-long closure is the Greater Vancouver Zoo.

As Phase Three of the Restart Plan by B.C. commences on June 1, provincial resorts and parks should implement social distancing protocols while open to minimize the spread of the virus.

In line with the guidelines, the zoo will implement a one-way experience by using clearly defined and outlined paw prints on the ground to maintain six-feet of social distancing along with lines painted two meters apart in the admissions and train line-ups.

The remaining 10% of the foot traffic in the zoo will flow in two directions, but only on paths that are four meters wide. It aims to allow bi-directional traffic to maintain the two-meters apart distancing.

The playground, vivarium, and North American Wilds viewing deck will remain closed along with other group activities. The staff will wear risk-appropriate masks, gloves, and face shields whenever in a public section of the zoo or in a view of a public area when their work will not allow them to observe social distancing.

Those who will visit the zoo will not be required to wear face masks for entry to the zoo, but they are recommended and available on-site. There are sanitation stations available for public use at all high points of contact, including railings and the admissions area.
