A 22-year old man was struck by a 5-ton truck. The incident occurred after he reportedly attempted to run across Lougheed Highway after a Halloween event at Roosters.
Jeremy Scholing, an Abbotsford resident, enrolled in a beginner-level first aid course several years back but he did not expect to use it. The actions of Scholing and his friend, Matt Burnett who were both residents of Abbotsford helped save the life of the man.
Road accident
According to Scholing, they heard the bang, looked and saw the man. They headed to the man and Matt checked but could not detect any pulse. It was then that they performed CPR. It was too dark and there was no way that the truck was able to stop. It was also raining at the time. A thump was heart and Jeremy decided that they need to pull over. According to Burnett, the man was not breathing.
According to Burnett, he took the shirt off his back since there was excessive bleeding around his airways. He started to wipe the blood off while Jeremy was performing mouth-to-mouth and CPR and was able to start breathing.
At last he was breathing again but choking a bit. Upon the arrival of the ambulance, the emergency team took over and transported the man way.
Generally, when someone calls 911, the dispatcher will instruct the caller on life-saving measures such as CPR. Although Scholing knew CPR, he said that the voice on the other end of the line walked him through it.
