Steve Sawatzky was at Tinkertown when he went into cardiac arrest. Around 2 dozen Winnipeg firefighter-paramedics took turns in performing CPR for nearly an hour after Sawatzky collapsed at a work barbeque.

Unexpected incident

Sawatzky was sitting at a picnic table at the amusement park, surrounded by his colleagues when he went into cardiac arrest.

His wife, Kim Sawatzky just stepped away to use the washroom. When she returned, the children were crying and Steve was on the ground receiving CPR.

After issues using the on-site automated external defibrillator (AED), his co-workers took turns in delivering CPR to keep him alive for almost an hour including the time needed for the ambulance to arrive and the trip to the healthcare facility. Sawatzky was transported to St. Boniface Hospital where he is recovering.
