Boy killed in hit-and-run

A boy, 15 years old is dead after a hit-and-run incident in Lockport, north of Winnipeg. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police the incident happened on a Friday night when 2 boys, both age 15 were riding on their bikes on the shoulder of Donald Road near Highway 9 in the municipality of St. Andrews. A vehicle changed a direction off the roadway and hit the two boys and thrown into a ditch. Paramedics responded to the incident and provided first aid to the boys. One of the boys was declared dead at the scene and the other boy was immediately brought to the hospital with no serious injuries.

According to the mayor, he is trying to investigate what happened on that night. He sends condolences to the families of the victims.

According to a witness the two boys were hit within meters of the St. Andrew Fire Hall. EMS or the emergency medical services and the local firefighters were the first to respond to the incident. The police used the dogs in chasing the suspect and finally caught in a vehicle on Donald Road. The suspect is a 29 year old man from Calgary. According to the police the vehicle involved in the incident was a stolen vehicle in Winnipeg. The suspect was high on drugs when he hit the 2 boys. The suspect is facing multiple charges in relation to the incident

According to a man who lives near the area where the incident happened, “it’s another devastation.” He was returning from a friend’s home at about 11:30 in the evening and he saw flashing lights of police cars from his driveway. He knew something was wrong and more police cars and the St. Andrews Fire Department arrived in the area. He went near the area and a police officer told him to stay away, because the area is considered a crime scene. The man thought the kids who were hit could be his neighbors. The community has already experienced its fair share of loss with a boy who was also killed in collisions in the past years.
