The son of an elderly couple was given CPR after a blaze. An elderly couple from Surrey is worried for the life of their son after the family narrowly escaped a house fire.

Escape from deadly blaze

The fire broke out at Vince Shoemaker’s wood frame house on 116 Avenue and 140 Street where the family has lived since 1954. The shoemaker stated that he had to drag his 83-year old wife toward the door as smoke filled the house.

Luckily, they were met at the entrance by two neighbors who rushed to help after seeing the flames. Neil Prendeville who lives beside the family stated that they did the best they could to get everyone out.

Vince was right by the door when they grabbed him out. They also grabbed his wife and lifted her and carried her outside. The couple lives with 3 of their adult sons. Sadly, one of them did not make it out on his own and the fire was too intense for the neighbors to grab him.

The firefighters arrived shortly after and managed to find the Shoemaker’s son on the second floor. CPR was performed on him at the scene and was transported to a healthcare facility, but his condition is dire.
