An arrested driver was given CPR after overdose. The Vancouver police are investigating after a man ran his truck into a police cruiser and shorty overdosed after being handcuffed.

Overdose on the road

An officer in a police car was stopped northbound on Main Street at Hastings after hit from behind by a pick-up truck carrying 2 people.

The officer got out of her patrol car and asked the driver who was believed to be impaired to get out of the truck. The officer placed him in handcuffs and under arrest.

In a short while, the driver started to lose consciousness and was placed on the ground. Another officer started CPR on the driver while a third officer sought help from a passerby and from a nearby support worker who provided naloxone kits.

The passenger inside the truck was also overdosing. The passenger was given 2 doses of naloxone and regained consciousness. The driver was given 3 doses of naloxone but required a 4^th dose when the paramedics arrived.

The passenger did not want further treatment from paramedics and did not want to go to the hospital and continued his way. The driver also refused further treatment but remained in custody. After a few minutes, he started to experience chest pains and rushed to a healthcare facility by paramedics.
