There is a reported increase in cases of drownings in May and rises through August. The BC Coroner’s Service issued a warning on water safety as the drowning toll reaches up the 5 in the province this month.

It also comes a day after the body of a 20-year old man was retrieved from a lake near Squamish, and the RCMP dive team continues to search the lake near Lillooet for a man.
Based on the RCMP news release, the underwater recovery team is searching Gun Lake which was 100 kilometers west of Lillooet after a man fell into the water while boating.
On Wednesday, a 20-year old Delta man also disappeared in Alice Lake near Squamish and the police divers were able to recover his body the next day.
The coroners service advises that when swimming, boating or engaging in any water-based activity, avoid alcohol. Any type of alcoholic beverage can cause impairment which significantly increases the chances of accidental drowning.
