A man is found dead and a suspect is under custody after a hit-and-run crash in New Toronto neighborhood late Monday night.
The police were initially called to Garnett Janes Road close to Ninth Street around 11 PM for a report concerning gunshots.
Potential danger in the road
Upon arrival at the scene, the officers located the 48-year old male on the ground sustaining evident injuries. According to the police, their investigation indicates that the male was hit by a Dodge vehicle that left the area. The man was rushed to a healthcare facility in a serious condition but later declared dead. The daughters of the man identified him as Joseph Stele.
The vehicle of the suspect meanwhile was found close to Sixth Street and Lake Shore Boulevard around 5 AM. The police claim that they took the 40-year old man into custody who has a connection to the fail-to-remain collision. The police are still under investigation whether shots were fired since the victim did not have any gunshot wounds.
The victim did not have any vital signs at the scene based on the initial findings. The police officers attempted to perform CPR on the victim, but it is uncertain whether they were successful in reviving him at any point.
Any person who provided first aid to the victim is a good gesture. As a society, it is part of our nature to help others in case of serious incidents.
