In a statement by one of the top health officials in B.C., medical professionals have a clear perspective on how the virus spreads. It is important to note that the spread of the virus is via droplet and contact route.

Based on a statement by the BC Centre for Disease Control, airborne transmission occurs once the small, evaporated droplets disperse in the air for an extended period. As for the droplets, they are capable of spreading a few meters before dropping to the ground.

The confusion is that the droplets of the virus can be in theory be aerosolized in a laboratory, but that is not how it typically spreads in the real world.

An important thing for people to do is to stay home if sick and maintain physical distancing when possible. Hand washing is also essential and wearing a mask is a helpful way to prevent the spread to others.
