Baby in cardiac arrest given CPR

A two-week old baby who died received CPR. The child went into cardiac arrest while his parents drove along a major highway near Merritt, B.C.

Unforeseen ordeal on the road

Sgt. Norm Flemming with the Merritt RCMP stated that the family was traveling from Vernon to Vancouver along the Coquihalla Highway when the father realized that the child was not breathing. The parents pulled over north of Merritt, initiated CPR and called 911.

The police sealed off the highway to allow an air ambulance to land, but the infant died while he was being airlifted to a healthcare facility.

The cause of death of the baby remains unclear but an autopsy has been scheduled.
