A 60-year old man with no vital signs was saved by a constable who performs CPR. Two Ottawa police constables raced to Halifax Drive to save a 60-year old man with no vital signs.
Quick action to save a life
Const. Mohamed Mohamed, who transferred to the Ottawa Police Service in 2018 from the Toronto force and Const. Francois Lapointe, were on routine patrol in the city’s east end on New Year’s Day when they were dispatched to the home.
A woman had called frantically reporting she had awoken to find her partner in bed next to her, not breathing and without a pulse. She called 911 fearing the worst.
With the fire department, paramedics and police all dispatched to the scene, the two officers were the first to arrive within 3 minutes of the call.
Const. Mohamed and Const. Lapointe confirmed the man had no vital signs and immediately moved him to the floor, performing advanced CPR while waiting for other first responders to arrive. The patient was then turned over to the care of the paramedics.
