Man in critical condition despite CPR after struck by car

A man was given CPR after struck by a car. At the time of the incident, the man was walking drunk on a street and was hit by a vehicle where he sustained critical injuries. The emergency responders were called to the scene on 10th Avenue in Carstairs, around 60 kilometers north of Calgary.

They discovered a 26-year old man injured at the scene and took over CPR being performed by the witnesses. The victim was later transported by STARS air ambulance to Foothills Hospital in Calgary with severe head trauma and other injuries.

According to Didsbury RCMP, the victim from Crossfield had been walking south down 10th Avenue in the middle of the northbound lane.

A 30-year old Carstairs woman was travelling north saw the man late and hit him with her car despite taking evasive action. The victim was thrown several meters by the impact of the collision into a ditch alongside 10th Avenue.

At the time of the incident, visibility was poor. It was a dark, overcast night and had recently rained. Speed and alcohol on the driver’s part were not factors in the incident.
