No charges on officer who stopped CPR on dying man

There are no charges laid against a Mountie who told a civilian to stop CPR on a dying man. The civilian complained to the RCMP and the Independent Investigations Office determined that the officer might have committed an offence.

Saving a dying man

The B.C. Crown prosecutor’s office stated that it happened last September when a man crashed his vehicle because of a medical event and a person on the scene initiated CPR.

The office stated that when the RCMP officer arrived, he checked the driver’s pulse and because he though the man was breathing, he ordered the person to stop CPR. The firefighters arrived and could not find a pulse and started CPR again, despite numerous medical interventions, the man was declared dead in a healthcare facility.

The prosecutor’s office stated that charges will not be laid since there is no substantial likelihood that the officer involved would be convicted.
