A 51-year old woman was given CPR after falling into the Kananaskis River. The incident occurred during a white-water rafting excursion.
Unforeseen ordeal in the river
According to RCMP, the woman fell out of the raft and was submerged in the water for a short period of time. According to RCMP spokeswoman Cpl. Sharon Franks, the woman was wearing safety gear as well as a life vest.
Franks stated that she does not know what caused the woman to fall into the water. Generally, when going over rapids, it is easy to be bounced out of a boat.
The woman was underwater for around a minute before being pulled back onto the raft. Soon after, she showed signs of medical distress so the operator brought the raft to shore and got in touch with the Canmore Mounties and paramedics.
Other individuals of the raft performed CPR before the arrival of the EMS. The woman was transported to a Calgary hospital where she was declared dead. According to Franks, there is nothing suspicious about the incident but RCMP continue to investigate.
