Stellarton hockey player at University Cup helps woman after crash

A woman who was trapped in her vehicle was saved. Brent Turnbull’s attempt to clear his head before the semifinal did not turn out the way he had planned.

Before every game, the team would usually go to Tim Hortons, but Turnbull decided to go ahead of the team, walking to a restaurant in Fredericton where the 2017 U Sports Cavendish Farms University Cup was taking place.

He was sitting in Tim Hortons getting coffee when he heard a loud bang. A vehicle ran into a parked truck. At first, he did not pay any attention but when he looked closely, he noticed that the wheels on the car where still turning and a cloud of smoke emanating from the engine. He knew that there was something wrong and people outside started to panic.

Turnbull rushed out to help and discovered that the driver was unresponsive at the wheel. Due to possible danger, the bystanders decided to move the woman to safety. Turnbull smashed the car window and unlocked the door. Another person removed the woman from the vehicle and another delivered CPR until the ambulance arrived.

As Turnbull was breaking the window, his teammates arrived and they tried to find a defibrillator at stores nearby. According to Turnbull, the incident was scary and he was shaken up before the game. His game did not turn out well by losing to the Saskatchewan Huskies.

According to Turnbull, he decided to help because if someone he knew was in the same situation, he would want others to help. He was glad to help.
