Scammers are sneaking counterfeit N95 masks into the supply chain and obtaining money for masks they do not have.
The N95 masks that are considered as the best respiratory masks are in short supply globally due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As a result, fraudsters are taking advantage and putting lives at risk.
The two main manufacturers of N95 masks issued fraud warnings after they received complaints about scammers attempting to sell non-existent masks.
The counterfeit masks are also a problem and some have already made it to the front lines in the U.S. After getting a batch of 1,000 N95 masks a few weeks ago from a trusted longtime vendor, a center determined that they were fake.
The fake masks did not fit the face properly and did not have the specific U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention approval labels that are required on the masks.
