The Ottawa paramedics credit a City of Ottawa worker and a bystander for saving the life of a jogger. The incident occurred near the intersection of Holitman and Foxfield drives in which a jogger collapsed when his heart ceases to beat.
The jogger, a 60-year old man dropped on the ground and discovered by Troy Feathers, a city parks employee and another bystander. They performed CPR and continued until the arrival of the paramedics.
Just in time
The paramedics delivered 2 shocks to the man using a defibrillator and injected epinephrine. In no time, his circulation was restored and able to breathe and move on his own. The man was transported to a healthcare facility in a critical but stable condition.
According to the paramedic spokesperson Supt. Marc-Antoine Deschamps, the CPR that was started by the bystanders is one of the essential links in the chain of survival for those suffering from cardiac arrest. If this step is not initiated, the chances of survival drops significantly. The bystander and City of Ottawa park worker saved the man’s life.
