A 52-year old man was saved by CPR and AED. The Nepean Sportsplex staff member only had AED training a week earlier.
Saving a life with CPR and AED
The paramedics responded to the Sportsplex gym for a man in cardiac arrest. The staff had initiated cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and utilized a defibrillator to deliver a shock to the heart of the man which ceased to beat.
The pulse of the man returned before the arrival of the paramedics. Luckily, the rapid response of the staff member helped save the life of the man who had only finished his defibrillator training last week.
The man was transported to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic campus in critical condition.
Life-saving tools: CPR and AED
During emergencies, the prompt delivery of cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) followed by using an automated external defibrillator (AED) can help save a life. These life-saving techniques significantly improves the chances of survival.
