Man seriously injured in LRT stabbing

A man was stabbed and severely injured at an Edmonton LRT platform. According to the police the unidentified man was stabbed several times and what they believed was an “unprovoked” attack at the South Campus LRT station. The man was stabbed in the chest around 7 in the morning by another man while he was waiting for the train.

Some bystanders immediately provided first aid on the man. The Emergency medical services arrived and continued with the treatment and immediately brought the man to the hospital for further treatment. He is now recovering in the hospital.

A 24 year old man named Mario Bigchild has been charged with attempted murder in relation to the stabbing incident in the LRT station. He was also charged of disarming a peace officer, assaulting a police officer, aggravated assault, escaping lawful custody, two counts of robbery and possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose.

A few minutes after the stabbing incident in the LRT platform, the police received a call at a Petro-Canada on the 57th avenue and 111th street. The police saw a man walked into the shop, stole some merchandise and assaulted an employee. The suspect went out of the shop and stole the Cadillac of the woman in the parking lot.

According to the Alberta Health Services, they stated that the family of the victim is very grateful for everyone who helped their son in the aftermath of the attack. They express their sincere gratitude and thanking the bystanders who provided first aid and the assistance they provided for our son. The family was also grateful and thanked the Emergency Medical Services crews, the Edmonton Police Service Crew and the Doctors and staff of the hospital were the boy is recovering. We are happy that our son is in a stable condition and recovering from his injuries.

The police officers used an electronic vehicle monitoring device in order to trace the stolen Cadillac of the woman. They eventually found the car parked in a street in west Edmonton. They arrested Bigchild nearby.

Bigchild made his first court appearance via a medical unit at the Edmonton Remand Center. The court was told that the accused has no past criminal record and has been denied bail.
