The quick actions of arena staff and teammates save the life of a hockey player with CPR in Cumberland.
A man in his 50s collapsed on the bench while playing hockey at the R.J. Kennedy Arena at around 11:40 PM.
According to the paramedics, the teammates of the hockey player quickly started CPR and the arena staff rushed to obtain the onsite public access defibrillator. One shock from the PAD was delivered, restoring the heart rhythm. The patient regained consciousness and was transported by Prescott-Russell Paramedics to a local hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Based on media release, the paramedics shared that by quickly recognizing a medical emergency, activating 911, initiating CPR, and using the on-site PAD, all the steps of the “Chain of Survival” were maintained. This resulted in a positive outcome for the patient.
