Edmonton peace officers issued tickets to people for not covering their faces in the past three days.
The City of Edmonton issued a total of four mask violations between August 1 and November 27. The spike in tickets comes after the city would be clamping down on mask usage in all public places, including recreation centers.
Everyone would need to wear masks in indoor public places even if they were previously exempt.
While tickets for infractions may be rising, city data shows the majority of residents in Edmonton are continuing to follow the bylaw.
Around 99% of people inside recreation facilities wear masks. LRT riders have the lowest compliance rate at 86.9%.
