Automated defibrillators or AEDs are now available in every public high school in Quebec. This was made possible after years of fundraising and campaigning.
The ACT Foundation not only made sure that schools have devices that can restore a normal heartbeat, but it is ensured that thousands of teachers have been trained. CPR instructors have trained students on how to perform CPR.
According to Sandra Clarke, the founder and executive director of ACT, some students are unaware that they are risk of a heart attack while many schools act as centers for the community and frequently used by people of all ages.
The goal of the ACT Foundation is to ensure that a defibrillator is present in every high school in the country as well as making sure that every young person graduates from high school knowing CPR and how to use a defibrillator so they can save lives. When someone has a heart problem, speed is the key to treatment.
