A 3-year old child who died at Abbotsford received CPR. The Fraser Health Authority has initiated a patient safety review after a 3-year old girl died at Abbotsford Regional Hospital.
Overlooked sickness
Nimrat Gill died five hours into her second hospital visit. Nimrat was taken to the hospital by mother Balraj Gill and husband Amarinder who were both sick. Amarinder was given antibiotics but the doctor told her to give her daughter Tylenol.
They returned home with her family and gave her daughter Tylenol as directed but the illness continued throughout the day. The next night, Nimrat once again could not sleep and her sickness worsened, as she started vomiting. On Feb. 7, Gill took her daughter back to the hospital.
It remains unclear what happened over the next 5 hours but X-rays were taken of Nimrat at some point and blood was drawn for tests. Both should have happened on her daughter’s first visit.
The doctors performed CPR on Nimrat around 5 hours after she arrived at the hospital to no avail.
The Fraser Health spokesperson, Tasleem Juma stated that the review underway is a joint effort between ARH’s emergency department and the health authority’s Maternal, Infant, Child and Youth team.
