The first responders were called to the area of Scott Road and 96A Avenue when a passerby noticed the woman trapped at the base of an embankment. The woman was stuck around 7.6 meters down according to the estimate of the assistant fire chief. A technical rescue crew was called in to assist in the high-angle rescue.
According to Battalion Chief Gary McHarg, the woman was distraught and sustained some injuries when the firefighters arrived. She was pulled to safety and transported to a hospital by ambulance to be assessed. The woman was conscious at the time of her rescue and expected to be okay.
McHarg added that they were not sure how long the woman has been in the ravine, probably up to 5 days. It is also not known how she ended up stuck in the ravine.
Clint Witla was hiking nearby when he heard the woman’s voice. He stated that he might have been making a lot of noise and she was heard by the woman and called for help. He made his way to where she was, noticed her injuries and called 911. He waited with her until help arrived.
