Victim of shooting incident given CPR

A victim of the shooting incident received CPR. The series of events that led to the death of the 30-year old outside the Elmvale Acres Shopping Centre is now under review by investigators with the provincial police watchdog.

Officers were called to the mall in response to reports that someone dressed in all black had been seen entering the building with a knife in his hand. Upon arrival at the scene, the two officers encountered the man on the mall’s property and there was an interaction.

At least one police officer discharged his firearm and the man was hit. The man was taken to The Ottawa Hospital’s civic campus where he was declared dead. One of the officers involved in the incident was injured. He was taken to a hospital for treatment while the other officer had to undergo assessment.

According to Yvan Simard, a custodian at the mall, he was in the laundromat when he heard the shots. He was doing laundry when he heard the shots. He went out and saw police doing CPR on the man.

The wide area was cordoned off at the mall in front of the RBC bank branch and the dry cleaner’s shop. Police also blocked off most of the mall’s parking lot to stem the flow of traffic into the area where the investigation is taking place.
