Two passerbys performed CPR on a man struck by a truck in Pitt Meadows. Matt Burnett and Jeremy Scholing who were both 23 heard the impact of the crash as they were driving home to Abbotsford along the Lougheed Highway.

They quickly pulled over and ran to the prone man who was not breathing. Scholing attempted CPR on the man after another passerby called 911.
Both were coached over the phone as neither Burnett nor Scholing had not performed CPR before. Burnett helped wipe the blood off the face of the man. The man started to cough and showed signs of life after several minutes of delivering CPR. The paramedics later arrived and transported the man to a healthcare facility.
Witnesses saw the man step into the eastbound lane of the highway near Harris Road to hail a taxi. It was where he was hit by a five-ton box truck. The victim, a 22-year old Port Coquitlam man was transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Burnett and Scholing were both shaken from the incident but hoping for the best. The driver of the truck stayed at the scene and cooperating with the police.
Being ready to save a life on the line
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving skill that can save a life. It is recommended to enroll in a first aid course to be prepared in case of emergencies.
