On July 7, face masks will be required at public indoor spaces in Toronto. With Canada’s largest city bringing in a mask mandate, the municipal governments in Metro Vancouver stated that they are taking direction on the issue from Dr. Bonnie Henry.
According to the Metro Vancouver board chair, in Metro Vancouver, we have taken the lead from the provincial health officer. Dr. Henry shares that she wears a mask indoors and strongly encourages others to do the same but since the COVID-19 cases in Metro Vancouver are much lower than Toronto, she does not think it needs to be mandated.
It depends on the transmission in the community. Nevertheless, with a second wave expected in the fall, that does not mean masks will not become mandatory at some point down the road.
