A Toronto man is thankful for the paramedics who performed CPR to save his life. After his heart attack, John Turco was surrounded by the people who played a role in saving his life. The 51-year old was choked up as he shook their hands.
Timely intervention
Turco stated that he would not be alive today if he was not surrounded by friends with CPR training. He was playing pickup basketball at Neil McNeil High School where he is the physical education teacher. He has been playing for more than an hour when a friend asked if he wanted to play one more game. After replying, it was the last thing that he remembered.
Turco fell straight back and his head bounced off the ground. Without hesitation, Gerald Rozario who was his teammate yelled out for someone to call 911 and asked another player to get the defibrillator.
Rozario and two other men quickly started CPR on Turco. When they could not get a pulse, they decided to use the defibrillator. Not long after, the emergency response crews arrived. According to the paramedics, when they arrived, everything was under control.
