The Saint John hockey team’s athletic therapist has a portable AED. According to the team’s certified athletic therapist, they have a protocol in place if a player collapses on the ice.
Proper assessment and delivery of CPR
The hockey player’s gear must be removed before delivering CPR and using an automated external defibrillator (AED). This is a response to the recent death of Jordan Boyd, 16-years old during a training camp. Jordan collapsed around 10 minutes into the tryout. The team’s athletic therapist delivered CPR but no one utilized an AED before the arrival of the paramedics.
Based on the investigation, Jordan’s gear was not removed when CPR was started by the Titans staff. The paramedics deemed the initial CPR ineffective.
Correct CPR
Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) is a life-saving technique that has successfully saved lives. Although there are cases where the outcome is poor, it might be due to poor delivery of the technique.
If you want to be prepared and to ensure that this procedure is carried out properly, enrolling in a first aid course is a good decision.
