Person killed by railcar given first aid

A man killed at a railyard in Edmundston, N.B. was a 33-year old father of two. According to teamsters Canada, the man started working at CN as a conductor and foreman trainee.

Danger in the railways

According to Eric Collard of the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, the man was killed by a railcar as it reversed.

It is the second serious railway injury in the area in just 2 weeks. Earlier, a Via Rail employee was hit by a passenger train as it slowed at the Truro, N.S. train station. At the site, 2 Truro police officers performed life-saving first aid and the victim was transported to a healthcare facility with life-threatening injuries.

According to the union, the death on Tuesday is the fifth workplace fatality in the rail industry in just a year.
