A 13-year old Montreal boy is in critical condition after finding at the bottom of the swimming pool after a high school gym class. No one noticed the absence of the grade 8 student when his class left the pool deck and it was the next group that found him.
According to a school board official, both teacher and lifeguard were present along with the boy’s 20-30 classmates.
Near drowning incident
According to Alain Perron, spokesman for the Commission scolaire de Montreal, a psychological team was sent to Pere-Marquette high school to meet the students and staff.
The first responders stated that the boy was in cardio-respiratory arrest upon arrival and they managed to reanimate him before transported to a healthcare facility. The lifeguard was also sent to the hospital to undergo treatment for shock. The local borough stated that the city-run pool located next to the school would remain closed indefinitely.
The police stated that there was no criminal investigation. The director of programs at the Quebec branch of the Lifesaving Society stated that they will likely take a closer look at what happened.
