A man who was shot dead by a police officer was given CPR. The incident occurred after a traffic stop in southwest Edmonton.
Police encounter
The man, Vitaly Savin, 55-years old was shot dead by a police officer. According to the police reports, an officer was responding to 2 calls from the public of a suspected impaired driver. The officer who is a 6-year veteran of the force, pulled over a silver minivan near Hollands Landing. Both the officer and the 55-year old exited their vehicles.
Aman Jaggi, a neighbor who spoke to the officers in the aftermath of the shooting stated that he saw the officer performing CPR. He heard 4 gunshots as he was getting ready for work. The officer had been moving backwards when he slipped on ice, then fired his gun.
Based on a statement to the media, the police believe that the man who was killed has family in Edmonton and they are reaching out to them to offer condolences. The officer was placed on administrative leave in accordance with the city police protocol. The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is investigating the death.
