Greg MacDonald, 59-years old along with his wife Sharon were standing together holding hands in waist-deep water at a beach in Port Hood.

Watery ordeal

The couple was suddenly hit by a wave and both sensed that they were going to be in trouble. MacDonald added that his brother did not have any current health issues that resulted in trouble. His brother was able to push his wife to the side.

According to Paul D’Eon, director of the Nova Scotia Lifeguard Service, MacDonald was around 30 meters offshore when the incident occurred. When his wife got to him, he was still talking and responsive. Once they started to bring him back to the shore, he was kicking but his condition steadily deteriorated. Upon reaching the beach, he was no longer breathing and unresponsive.
